Into the future

Roberts Massif, a nunatak at the edge of the Polar Plateau, shows a succession of closely spaced recessional moraines, probably spanning much of the Quaternary Period, but as yet undated. Despite the 85S latitude, little snow accumulates and the areas is extremely arid. The ice sheet itself is sustained by only a few centimetres of snow a year.
