Into the future

Roberts Massif, a nunatak at the edge of the Polar Plateau, shows a succession of closely spaced recessional moraines, probably spanning much of the Quaternary Period, but as yet undated. Despite the 85°S latitude, little snow accumulates and the areas is extremely arid. The ice sheet itself is sustained by only a few centimetres of snow a year.
