Driftwood of tree-trunk proportions litters many Svalbard beaches. The logs in this photograph lie on a beach on Nordaustlandet bordering the strait of Hinlopenstretet, and are derived originally from Siberian rivers, but transported here in the pack ice of the Arctic Ocean.
