Ice-dammed lake

A temporary lake, dammed by a glacier or where two glaciers merge. Prone to seasonal catastrophic drainage.

Between Lake, an ephemeral ice-dammed lake, formed where the Thompson and White glaciers on Axel Heiberg Island, Canadian Arctic, meet. Filling and emptying takes place once every year, the outlet closing up over the winter as a result of ice-creep. Photo J. Alean, 1977.
