Vadret Pers, 2700 m.a.s.l.: A small crevasse [1] near our position is filled with meltwater. Upglacier is a prominent hill, over which the ice flows and where much larger crevasses occur [2]. There Vadret Pers flows over a hump in the bedrock. Because of the increase in flow velocity and due to bending of the ice, transverse crevasses open up. In contrast, the area [3] further down is free of crevasses, as the ice gets compressed there.
