QTVR panorama (approx. 1.5 MB).
View from the Goldberg across the Ries plain. When the panorama opens, Nördlingen and its prominent church are at the centre. The Goldberg is a terrace of limestone deposited by a lake which filled the crater for several millions of years after the crater's formation. Similar terraces can be found when the panorama is turned. The highest, flat topped mountain ("Ipf") along the horizon is, however, of different origin and much older than the Ries impact (2004 / copyright J. Alean).
