In the early morning of 23 November local Volcanologist Doni Wijayanto guided us on a very brief trip to the former eastern rim of Anak Karakatau. During the partial ascent of the active volcano we continuously checked the regularity of the eruptions. As long as these kept occurring in regular intervals we were confident that no major vulcanian explosion was imminent. Nevertheless, one started only half an hour after we had left the tiny island.
