Mount St. Helens and Spirit Lake from Windy Ridge Flowers and grasses are re-colonizing the blast area of the 1980 eruption. A log remains in its tilted position indicating the direction of the eruption's pressure wave. Other logs, lying flat on the ground, may soon become invisible due to the rapidly growing vegetation. When shooting the photos for this panorama I set up the tripod right on the path as visitors are discouraged from leaving the path in order not to disturb the virgin and fragile vegetation. |
