Mount St. Helens

Mount St. Helens summit crater from south rim

We are standing a few hundred meters west of where the footpath reaches the crater rim. The peak on our left is the highest point of Mount St. Helens. On its steep inner wall stratification due to many eruption deposits can be seen. In the crater is the lava dome which was extruded after the cataclysmic eruption of 1980. Behind it are Spirit Lake and Mount Rainier.
