Weather on Stromboli

Snow

Snow occasionally falls in the summit region (Photo Jaeger, January 1990) With a bit of luck you may see snow on Pizzo via the INGV Stromboli Live Cam, like above right. Snow is very rare on the coast, but an unusual cold front in late January 1999 caused intensive snowfall at sea level. Watching the snow falling on the coast is very impressive, as you can imagine watching this video (MPEG), taken by Roby in Piscità during the snowfall of 31 January 1999. The event is so rare that the reactions of the children of Stromboli are worth another video (MPEG), taken by Roby on 30 January 1999, when the first snow was falling on the village.
