  • Truman's mother was called Lillie Mae; Holly's real name was Lulamae. Both changed their names to more sophisticated ones when they moved to New York. Lillie Mae became Nina and Lulamae Holly. Capote in a first draft called Holly Connie Gustafson; then he changed that name to Holiday Golightly - a name that symbolizes her personality: she is a woman who makes a holiday of life, through which she walks lightly.
