Recession of Vadret da Tschierva as seen from the huts of Margun da l' Alp Ota, 2257 m.a.s.l.: The photo from the mid 1890s (Schweiz. Alpines Museum) was taken only a few decades after the Little Ice Age maximum. The glacier surface is only a few metres below the lateral moraines. A small part of Vadret da Roseg can be seen on the far right. By 2004 the tongue of Vadret da Tschierva has receded more than one kilometre. Note the growth of trees and alder bushes in the glacier's forefield. The huts in the foreground were rebuilt, and another, larger building was added.
