Nördlingen, largest city in the meteor crater, has about 20'000 inhabitants. The old town is surrounded by a city wall, 5 gates and 16 watchtowers. The most prominent feature in Nördlingen is the "Daniel", a 90m high spire of the St. George's church. In clear weather one has the best possible view from its top over the Nördlinger Ries:
