In September 2005, SOL team members Roberto Carniel and Marco Fulle undertook expeditions to Guadeloupe and Martinique, West Indies, with a team of volcanologists of the Volcano Seismology Working Group. After the passage of a tropical storm, during a few rare days of very dry weather, the following photographic coverage of vegetation-covered andesitic domes and the site of the catastrophe of St. Pierre could be achieved. All photos are copyright M. Fulle.
These pages would not have been possible without the logistical support of the organizing committee of the Annual Workshop of the Volcano Seismology Working Group of the European Seismological Commission. Moreover, we kindly acknowledge the personal collaboration of the Director of the Guadeloupe volcano observatory, François Beauducel, and of the Director of the Martinique volcano observatory, Sara Bazin.
