On this page we show impressions of Etna during March 2005, after a very cold winter that covered the
volcano with meters of snow, and when the white mountain offered a wonderful contrast against the green
surroundings. As usual the pictures on this page link to larger photos (about 100 KB).
The jeep-track on the south side is flanked by thick snow layers.
Valle del Bove: fresh black lava from the 2004-2005 eruption on the left.
Spectacular black dikes rise from the icy slopes of the Valle del Bove rim.
A new crater has collpased on the East flank of the South-East Cone.
These pine trees were killed by bombs from the big cones of the 2002 eruption rising on the right. The North-East cone smokes on the left.
The same fishbone-trees with Aspromonte in the background. A comparison with May 2003 shows that these «ghosts» will disappear soon.
One of the bombs that showered this foreast of pines and birches has lodged and solidified on a branch.
A ghost pine tree on Etna's north slope. Monte Frumento delle Concazze in the background.
