About 1900

View from Eggishorn (2926.7m): Grosser Aletschgletscher (foreground), Mittelaletschgletscher (centre) and Aletschhorn (4193m). In 1900 Mittelaletschgletscher was a tributary of Grosser Aletschgletscher; in 2004 there is a 1 kilometre long gap between the two. The cirque glaciers on Geisshorn (3740m, upper left) and on Kleines Dreieckhorn (3639m, top right) have also receded considerably. Surface lowering of Grosser Aletschgletschers is evident (note trimline).
