Glacier recession in the Swiss Alps

Panoramic views of Gornergletscher 2004 and 2018 from Gornergrat. The northern flow unit of Gornergletscher (between Stockhorn and Monte Rosa, far left), Schwärzegletscher (right) and Breithorngletscher (at the right edge of the photo) no longer reached the main part of the glacier in 2018. The surface has sunk so much that the ice-dammed Gornersee at the foot of Monte Rosa no longer forms (photos Alean).
