Etna 2011-2015

Etna Paroxysm 16-18 June 2014

In the evening of 14 June 2014, Etna's new South-East Cone (SEC) woke up after a rest of several months, with the first paroxysm of a probable new sequence like those of 2011-2013. The eruption lasted for four days, with pulsating lava fountains reaching a climax in the morning of 16 June, and then decreasing to Strombolian activity afterwards. Marco recorded the eruption from Belvedere, Schiena dell'Asino and Monte Zoccolaro. In the second clip, one can glimpse small lava bubbles from a vent partially hidden behind the lava flow in the eastern saddle of SEC. All videos were filmed with a Nikon D7000 camera and 50mm, 135mm and 200mm lenses. The full-HD movies were compressed to MP4 files. Scroll down to see all four clips.
