Etna 2018-2021

September 2019: Voragine

From the end of 2018 to July 2019, Etna had several short-lived effusive and strombolian eruptions (lasting a few days at most) centered on the South-East Cone. In September 2019, North-East Crater violently erupted for three days. This activity triggered the start of a mild strombolian eruption lasting several weeks in Voragine. At the center of Voragine a spectacular cinder cone started to grow. These clips were taken from 7pm to 8pm on 15 September 2019 by a P3A drone flying from Cono Barbagallo. Bigger explosions at minutes 1.11 (lava plug lifted up by the exploding gas), 2.52 (covering the cinder cone with incadescent bombs) and 3.49 (hitting the drone flying one hundred meter right above the vent). We warmly thank Etna Sud Guides and Funivia dell'Etna for the logistic support.
