Effusive eruption 2007
We present here first pictures of the effusive eruption which started on Stromboli on 27. February 2007. They were recorded the following morning, when Giovanni Bassi approached the island, coming from Naples, by ferry. For current updates about this reuption go to this page. Extensive photographic coverage by Marco Fulle to appear later.
Stromboli and its two new lava flows seen from a great distance. Stromboli's summit is hidden by clouds (GB).
As the boat approaches the island, the steam plume caused by lava entering the sea hides the lava flow more and more (GB).
As the houses of San Bartolo come into view (left) the sun rises. The vent erupting the lava is clearly visible (GB).
A strong westerly wind carries the steam accross the lower slopes of the cone. Lower centre: buildings at Punta di Labronzo (GB).
The eruption in the evening of 5.3.2007 from the ferry to Naples (SB).
