Unusual eruptions

1907 till 1930

This is the time period of the most distructive eruptions on Stromboli so far. 1907 and 1912 Stromboli ash falls as far away as Calabria and Siciliy. On 22. May 1919 big blocks fall on Ginostra and the village Stromboli. Four people are killed, several more injured:

13. November 1915: The eruption colum is at least 1500m high. The arrow points at a possible pyroclastic flow on the Sciara del Fuoco (Photos: Perret).

On 11. September 1930 an enormous eruption takes place. A pyroclastic flow races down the slope and through the houses of San Bartolo. Six people are killed:
